A warm welcome to visiting Brethren and friends. This page will help you plan a smooth and enjoyable visit to a lodge within the Nipissing-Muskoka District.
Step 1: Where are you going to be?
• Open the Lodge Directory and choose the lodge closest to your travel plans.
• Use the map link on the lodge page to confirm the address, parking, and accessibility.
• Check driving time and aim to arrive 30 minutes before the meeting is tyled.
• What to bring if you are a Mason: current dues card, a piece of photo identification, and your apron if you prefer to use your own. The lodge can usually provide a visitor’s apron.
• Dress code is conservative business attire. A dark suit, collared shirt, and tie are appropriate.
Step 2: Is there a meeting or event taking place?
• Check the District Calendar to see meeting nights and district events during your dates.
• Review the individual lodge page for start times and any notes about the work.
• Entered Apprentices and Fellowcrafts should confirm the degree being worked to ensure they can be present for the full meeting.
• Many lodges hold a light meal or banquet before the meeting. Confirm the timing, whether there is a cost, and be sure to RSVP.
• Add the event to your personal calendar so you have the time, address, and contact details at hand.
Step 3: Connect with the Lodge Secretary
• Send a short message to the lodge secretary to introduce yourself and confirm your visit. Include your full name, home lodge, lodge number, jurisdiction, and contact details.
• If you are visiting from outside Ontario, the secretary can confirm recognition and advise on any local customs.
• Ask about parking, accessibility, festive board arrangements, and any special instructions for visitors.
• If you are bringing a guest who is not a Mason, enquire about open events or public portions of the evening.
Visitor etiquette and practical notes
• Sign the visitor’s register on arrival and be ready to show your dues card.
• The Tyler may ask a few customary questions.
• Switch phones to silent and avoid photographs unless permission is given.
• If you are new to the area, ask a Brother about good places to park or eat nearby.
