History
The Sturgeon Falls Masonic Lodge No. 447 was created during an organization meeting, on Feb. 9, 1900. The first Worshipful Master was W. Bro. Rev. William Anderson. His name is #1 on the membership register and he held the first meeting of the on February 12, 1900.
The original Masonic Hall was located on the corner of William and King St., on the site of the present Lucky Loi Restaurant. The present Masonic Temple building was built in 1894 as a school and when it became vacant it was purchased by the Lodge members and became the site of the Masonic Lodge in 1914 and is being used up to the present day and for many years to come.
The Lodge’s first District Deputy Grand Master was Right Worshipful Brother Alfred J. Young who served the Nipissing District No. 18 in 1902-1903. His name is # 11 in the register and he was installed as the second Worshipful Master of the Lodge on December 27, 1900 and served for 18 months as Master.
The Celebration of 100 Years of Freemasonry in Sturgeon Falls, Sturgeon Falls Lodge No. 447 was held on Friday, September 29, 2000 with Most Worshipful Brother Robert J. McKibbon, Grand Master, Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario, as the guest speaker.
Lodge meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month from September to June at 7:30 PM. A dress casual barbecue is held before the lodge meetings in June. Visitors and guests are always welcomed. Make time to come to visit the members and this historic Lodge.
